New Awards Search
If you’re looking for reviews of the Coretta Scott King Award or the Pulitzer Prize, now you can find them quickly in Booklist Online. We’ve added an Awards search on the Advanced Search page that lets you select among 19 different awards to structure your search. You can search just for winners of the Siebert Award, for example, or do a combined search for winners of the Caldecott and Newbery Medals. And you can use Awards as a filter for other searches by combining it with different options on the Advanced Search page.
Have you created your My Booklist log-in and profile yet? A cool feature for subscribers and authenticated users is the ability to create a personal Booklist Online area where you can save searches and create and save personal lists. Also, when you set up your My Booklist profile you can indicate which subject areas and even authors you’re most interested in, and new reviews in your selected areas will be delivered to your own My Alerts page. My Alerts now has a Starred Reviews filter that lets you limit your Alerts to the titles Booklist editors have deemed most worthy of attention.
Questions from Our Users
Q: I’m a high-school media specialist who is responsible for most of the book selection in my school. When I use your print edition, I frequently scan through the adult titles looking for a YA notation at the end. I would like to use Booklist Online because it is so much easier to solicit opinions from colleagues when all I need to do is copy and paste to an e-mail. How do I use Booklist Online to find YA recommendations?
A: There is an easy way to do this. Go to the Booklist Online Advanced Search screen and enter whichever search criteria you want (limit by issue, for example, and/or by subject); then check the Adult Books Recommended for Young Adults box at the bottom of the page. Any search you perform will return only YA-recommended titles. Within individual review records, you’ll see that a YA Recommendation tab appears at the top of the page; click on that tab to read the text of the recommendation.
Q: How can I get the full text of each review without going back to the search results? I do not want to have to go back to the search results and click on the next record each time; I want to go through the full text of the reviews as quickly as possible with as few clicks as possible.
A: Select the results you want from your results list by checking the box next to each title, and then click the View Selected Items button at the top of the list. The full record for the first title you’ve selected will display, and from there you can just click Next to get to the rest of the reviews.
