Rainbow List: 2019

The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Round Table and the Social Responsibilities Round Table of the American Library Association are pleased to offer the 2019 Rainbow Project bibliography of recommended titles for youth from birth to age 18 that contain significant and authentic gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, queer, or questioning (GLBTQ) content. Titles published in late 2017 are noted; all others were published in 2018.

Over the Rainbow: 2019

The 2019 Over the Rainbow Project book list, compiled by ALA’s Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Round Table (GLBTRT), includes 50 titles in the category of fiction and 54 in nonfiction published between July 1, 2017, and December 31, 2018. 

Top 10 Great Graphic Novels for Teens: 2019

The Great Graphic Novels for Teens list is compiled annually by a committee of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) and comprises recommended graphic novels for readers ages 12 to 18. The titles below make up the top 10 picks from the full list, which is available here. Titles published in 2017 are noted; all others were published in 2018.

The Reading List: Best Adult Genre Fiction, 2019

Established in 2007 by the CODES section of RUSA, the Reading List Council, consisting of librarians who are experts in readers’ advisory and collection development, selects an annual list of outstanding genre fiction. This list is made up of one title in each of eight different categories: adrenaline (encompassing thrillers, suspense, and action/adventure); fantasy; historical fiction; horror; mystery; romance; science fiction; and women’s fiction. All titles were published in 2018.

The Listen List: Outstanding Audio Narration, 2019

The Listen List highlights extraordinary narrators and listening experiences that merit special attention by a general adult audience and the librarians who advise them. 

Best Fiction for Young Adults: 2019

The Best Fiction for Young Adults list is compiled annually by a committee of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) and comprises fiction appropriate for ages 12 to 18. All titles were published in 2018 unless otherwise noted.

Notable Children’s Books: 2019

This list was compiled by the Notable Children’s Books Committee of the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC). The committee, comprising librarians from throughout the U.S., selected the titles from the several thousand children’s books published during 2018. Included are books of fiction, information, poetry, and pictures—all of special interest and value to children through age 14.

Notable Books: 2019

This list has been compiled for use by the general reader and by librarians who work with adults. The Notable Books Council, ALA Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), has selected the titles for their significant contribution to the expansion of knowledge or for the pleasure they can provide to adult readers. All titles were published in 2018.
